I'm NEVER watching
World Cup Soccer (or any soccer for that matter!) again. Italy and
France play regulation, then two overtimes, and the cup goes to the
winner of a bleepin' SHOOTOUT???
Maybe the NBA will adopt that: If
game seven of the Finals is tied at the end, let's have the five
players from each team shoot free throws to determine the champion --
GETOUTTAHERE!!!
A shootout is like headbutting your sister. Speakin'
of which, you may be wondering why French star Zidane suddenly landed a
world class headbutt into the Italian player's chest. You may not know it, but
he was a recent attendee to Chicago Cub Michael Barrett's
"Unsportsmanlike Conduct Workshop for Professionals ..."

im italian and i love football(i hate the term soccer)and i can assure is a common opinion the penalties shootout are an unfair way to assign a trophy
u should know that like 30 years ago the final matches were supposed to be repeated in case of a draw
this is not possible anymore for many reasons all related to the economic interests connected to the game
but u should ask urself
did i like the regular game?
did i enjoy the way the teams battled for 120 minutes without pause?
congratulations btw for usa
its the only team we didnt overcome in the tournament

I thought it was just OK to watch. What is frustrating is that every time a team approaches the opponent's goal, twice as many defenders are there to stop most any chance of scoring.
I play basketball, and this is like playing three on five.
My solution? Double the width of the goal mouth -- then there'll be more goals, and have sudden death in overtime.
PS -- I'm sure I'd like soccer a lot more if I grew up with it like you did. Lemme know if you want to learn about a truly great game -- baseball!

I love soccer. But it's funny, I really agree with you on the shootout. And I've also discussed that the goals should be larger. I think the goals are fine for most of the world, but Americans get impatient. So make the goals a foot or 2 taller and 2 yards wider. (American Soccer) I've never heard anyone else have that opinion though
