The Five Branches of Coaching ...
One of the challenges of being in the coaching profession: When
someone hears that I'm a "coach," they make assumptions on what I
do based upon what they know about what other coaches do. I'm a
business coach who works one-on-one with small business owners,
entrepreneurs and sales professionals to help them build their
clientele. I help my clients to clarify their goals,
delegate/eliminate unproductive tasks and then focus on marketing
(through networking and requesting referrals) and selling (via
consultative interviews) their services. My main niche is financial
advisors (thus the referral from Dan Felix, who is aware that you also
work with FA's), and I work exclusively by phone.
If I may, there are what I consider five main branches of coaching:
Executive -- to help CEO's/presidents of companies become more effective leaders
Corporate -- to help directors and managers get better results from their reports
Business -- to help business owners build their clientele and manage their businesses
Career -- to help people transition to a job/career they want
Life -- to help people create balance, bring their dreams into reality, work on relationships, etc.
Of course there is some overlap in all of these -- I've done all of
them, prefer what I currently do best. I do have a network of coaches
who I can refer people to if, for example, someone wants a career coach.
